Mary Schafhauser
Mary has been involved in the summer camp community since she was a young girl. From attending numerous sports camps herself to working as a counselor at a summer camp for adults with disabilities in college, she caught the camp bug early in life. Throughout her schooling and early career, Mary always knew that one day her path would lead her to a place where her work and passions would collide. She has found that at Pine Tree Camp. Mary holds an undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice and a Master of Education in Youth Development Leadership. She comes to Pine Tree Camp with a wide range of experience that includes working in adult re-entry services, juvenile probation, basketball coaching, and summer camp development. Mary is a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer that served in Mongolia from 2015-2017 working in the Community Youth Development sector. While serving, Mary co-founded two separate summer camps that focused on diversity, gender roles present in Mongolian society, girls empowerment, and environmental awareness. During the school year, Mary worked with her local disability center trying to bridge the gap between the community and people with disabilities. Mary came to Pine Tree Camp in February 2018 from Minnesota with her black lab/golden retriever Miko. Together they have made Maine home, enjoying all it has to offer.
