Kate McElligott joined Pine Tree Society as its President and CEO in March 2025.

Her extensive experience in the field of disabilities includes serving as a teacher, case manager, therapeutic program leader, and systems-level leader; all of which have informed her belief in providing foundational access and opportunities for people with disabilities to thrive.

“Pine Tree Society has been redefining possibilities for people with disabilities in Maine for almost nine decades. I am grateful for the opportunity to lead the dedicated and passionate Pine Tree Society team as we provide individuals with disabilities throughout Maine the tools, opportunities, and power to transform their lives and communities.” 

She holds a Master of Science in Special Education and a Graduate Certificate in Leadership in Special & Inclusive Education from the University of Kansas. She earned her Bachelor of Arts from Fairfield University in Connecticut and received a Fulbright grant for educational research.

When she’s not working, she enjoys outdoor adventures with her husband and two spirited young children, as well as amateur birding, running, and baking gluten-free treats.
