A Conversation with Shelly Houser:
When did you join the Pine Tree Society Board, and what drew you to its mission? In 2025, I was drawn to joining the Board of Directors at Pine Tree Society because I believe in the mission and values of the organization. As a person with a disability, I felt I would not only be an asset to the Board, but a voice for the disability community.
Do you serve on any committees? If so, which ones? I serve on the Program Committee.
Why did you choose to focus on this particular committees? I am passionate about the Program Committee because developing new programs that increase inclusion and opportunity in our community is what Pine Tree Society is all about. Program evolution is a strength of mine that I really enjoy developing.
What unique perspective do you bring to the board? I am able to lend my voice and experience to the board as a person with a disability, and 18 years working in the human services field.
Where do you work, and what is your job title? I currently work for NeuroRestorative as Residential Supervisor.
What is meaningful to you about Pine Tree Society? What is meaningful to me about Pine Tree Society is not only how we are creating these opportunities and programs for people with disabilities, but how we as a board are consistently seeking to expand and improve our services, events, and fundraising opportunities.
