A Conversation with Casey Karlsen
When did you join the Pine Tree Society Board, and what drew you to its mission? I joined the board in December 2023. I have always had a heart for working with people with disabilities. My mom has a background in Special Education, and I considered a career in that field as well. I ultimately chose a career in Finance, and being on the board gives me an opportunity to use my finance skillset to help people that I care about.
Do you serve on any committees? If so, which ones? I am the Chair of the Finance Committee, which also means I’m on the Executive Committee.
Why did you choose to focus on those particular committees? In order to fulfill their mission, every organization needs careful financial management. I see my role being to facilitate the careful stewardship of resources to maximize our impact.
What unique perspective do you bring to the board? I lead the valuation team of a nationwide accounting firm, Sorren, as their National Director of Business Valuations. In this role, I assess the financial health of hundreds of different businesses. This background provides helpful context for assessing the financial health of Pine Tree Society.
What is meaningful to you about Pine Tree Society? Seeing the engagement of community members at donor appreciation events has always been meaningful to me. Getting to meet with the donors and see not only their generosity but also their deep care and sense of responsibility for the welfare of their community is always very impactful to experience.
