Why we celebrate our Direct Support Professionals all year long

In honor of Direct Support Professionals Appreciation Week (9/13-9/19) Pine Tree Society spent the month of September celebrating our dedicated team of Direct Support Professionals (DSPs). The work they do is worthy of celebrating all year long!

Our current team of 17 DSPs, across programs in both Auburn and Scarborough, has over 375 years of collective experience in the field. The longevity of their service to not only our organization, but the clients they support, is a direct representation of how passionate our DSP Team is towards changing the lives of the people we serve.

Our DSPs primarily work with individuals with intellectual disabilities in our Adult Community Support programs. Their job, every single day, is to provide a safe and comfortable space for our clients to build friendships, take part in community activities, be creative, and try new things. The nature of this job requires them to think quickly, be flexible and adaptable, and consistently find creative solutions in the moment to ensure the individuals we serve receive individualized support. We are so grateful for their dedication, energy, and good humor.

Our DSPs open doors to the community by engaging clients with local farms, amusement parks, sports games, and Special Olympics events. They also support clients during meaningful volunteer excursions, like delivering for Meals on Wheels. By breaking down barriers to isolation, we empower individuals in our Community Support programs to gain independence, build new experiences, and truly thrive. These programs don’t just offer activities—they change lives every single day.

Did you know? We are hiring DSPs in both our Scarborough and Auburn locations! If you’re looking to join a team of dedicated, creative, and passionate individuals who devote themselves to truly changing lives, apply today.
