On New Year’s Day, a team of Special Olympics athletes from Pine Tree Society’s Community Support program made the trip to Old Orchard Beach for the annual Lobster Dip tradition of jumping in the ocean to raise money for Special Olympics.
“Our team of athletes had a lot of fun dashing in and out of the cold water to support this cause,” said Pine Tree Society direct support professional Deb Cote.
Deb is a certified Special Olympics trainer and the head of Pine Tree Society’s Special Olympics delegation in Androscoggin County. For Deb, staying active is as much about being together out in the community as it is about promoting wellness. Taking part in events like the Lobster Dip gives clients the chance to try something new and make friends that last a lifetime.
“We love taking part in anything to do with Special Olympics,” she said. “After the Dip, our team went out for lunch to celebrate. It was such a good feeling.”
