Camp gave him a lot of confidence
Sebastien’s first time staying overnight at Pine Tree Camp, his parents were a little nervous. They thought he might have a tough time.
“We were there 15 minutes and he already ditched us,” his father, Marc, laughed. “We set up his bed and put his clothes away and he was out running around and talking with other kids.”
It was music to their ears and confirmed everything they’d hoped for as he transitioned from day to overnight camp.
“Education always came easy for Sebastien, but socializing was difficult. We saw Camp Pine Cone day camp as a way for him to meet other kids experiencing similar things,” Marc recalled. “Within ten minutes on his first day, he and another kid started drawing triangles on the board and talking about geometry.”

He loved swimming, going out on the boat and spending time in the playground with his new friends.
“Coordination and team sports are absolutely not his thing. But that first year, he rode a three wheeled bike and loved it. It gave him a lot of confidence.”
Now, he has his own bike at home and loves riding around the neighborhood.
“Just being out there with other kids and feeling like part of the group was our biggest hope and that’s what happened.”
His sister, Amelie, is six years old and spent her first week at Camp Pine Cone this summer.
“She loved it and is already talking about being old enough to do overnight camp like her brother. It’s her camp and she can’t wait to go back.”
