Week of the Young Child at the Pine Tree Society

Successful Week of the Young Child at Pine Tree Society’s specialized preschool

In April, Pine Tree Society’s specialized preschool celebrated the Week of the Young Child, an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children  (NAEYC), the world’s largest early childhood education association.

Head to our Facebook page to see all the photos of this year’s activities.

Music Monday

We made egg shakers and used them to participate in rhythm activities while singing. Making music and singing can help develop fine and large motor control skills.

Tasty Tuesday

We made homemade fruit salsa with cinnamon tortilla chips. This was a new snack for us and it was a huge hit! We like to try new snacks with a variety of textures and flavors.

Work Together Wednesday

We engaged in activities using LEGOS to make different creations. Cooperative play and working together with friends to design, build and problem-solve allows children to work towards a common goal.

Artsy Thursday

We made tie-dyed t-shirts as a fun and interactive way for the students to practice fine motor skills and problem-solving capabilities. Creative learning projects can foster a child’s natural imagination and helps develop life skills that will stay with them for years to come.

Family Friday

In March, families were invited to provide favorite recipes which we compiled into a cookbook for the kids to take home; each with a uniquely decorated cover. Early childhood is a critical time for establishing food preferences and healthy eating habits. We also read stories about different kinds of families.

Week of the Young Child at the Pine Tree Society

Pine Tree Society’s Early Learning Center in Auburn provides early intervention and educational programming for children ages three to six. While each child comes to us with unique strengths and challenges, we see a common goal for all of our students: To foster a love of learning that will set a strong foundation for the future.
